Born in Navarre, Italy, he studied art and literature at the Brera Academy in Milan, where he became interested in design and the psychology of vision. Enzo Mari is widely regarded as a major political conscience in contemporary design.
"Che Fare?" What to do? This simple question underlies all Enzo Mari's projects.
"Oggetto a composizione autocondotta" is one of Enzo Mari's most famous editions. Between two panes of glass, held together by a solid wood frame, are 18 free-form geometric modules (triangles, squares, rhombuses), which can be infinitely modified by moving the object. They comprise five blue lozenges, four orange lozenges, three black triangles, two yellow squares, two yellow triangles, one red lozenge and one brown triangle.
Signed and numbered in the wood.
Private collection.
